Savage Cuts Will Hurt Aucklanders

Today Auckland City Councillors met to set the direction which will guide officers in the preparation of the Council's 10-year plan and budget. During the meeting, Mayor John Banks and Citizens and Ratepayers (C&R) councillors made decisions to cut over $800 million of expenditure over the next ten years, over half of which is in the south-eastern Tamaki ward.

C&R Confirm Additional $34m Rugby World Cup Spend-Up

A Citizens and Ratepayers (C&R) decision at the Arts, Culture and Recreation Committee has recommended that Auckland City Council fund a 'world class' programme of activities around Rugby World Cup 2011. The additional $34 million of 'discretionary spending' is being described by City Vision Eden-Albert Ward Councillors Cathy Casey and Glenda Fryer as a total misuse of ratepayer's money.

C&R Shuts Down Community Participation

 At Auckland City Council's Long Term Council Community Plan (LTCCP) Direction Setting meeting today, City Vision-Labour Councillors fought hard to retain important community fora which enable the diverse voices of Auckland to have a say in the Council budget process. Unfortunately they were unable to convince the majority Citizens and Ratepayers (C&R) grouping who voted against Councillor Leila Boyle's resolution to retain the youth, Pacific Island Ministers, Union, Gay, Lesbian and transgender fora.
