Eden Albert Community Unites Around City Vision
The Auckland local body group City Vision, which is made up of Labour, Alliance, the Progressives and community independents, has joined together in a coalition with the Greens to form a strong united centre left ticket to contest this year's local body election. The Eden Albert ward campaign opening will be 21 June where the City Vision candidates will be formally introduced. "City Vision has got a winning team of community focused candidates who will stand in Eden Albert Ward in October's local body elections" says Councillor Glenda Fryer. The Chairs of four Eden Albert residents associations, the Friends of Owairaka, the Eden Epsom Residents Association, the living Communities Association and the Kingsland Community Association, have joined the City Vision team to contest this election. The top polling Councillor from the 2001 local body elections in Eden Albert, City Visions Glenda Fryer has been joined by Mt Albert woman Dr Cathy Casey who is a campaigner for responsible dog ownership, and Green candidate at the last election Neil Abel. They will be City Visions Council team to the Eden Albert ward. "We are very lucky that such a strong group of community-minded local residents have put themselves forward. The Eden Albert community has not done well out of this Council. Our team are fired up and ready to go, because Aucklanders deserves better," says sitting Councillor Glenda Fryer. "This is a key ward for City Vision to gain a majority on the Council. Local residents tell us they have had a gutful of the discredited policies which have seen a depletion of Auckland assets, with local community centres up for sale, pensioner housing flogged off, and half the airport shares sold for peanuts." says Cr Glenda Fryer. Three sitting Community Board members Virginia Chong, Wendy Davies and Gillian Dance have been joined by Phil Chase who chairs the combined neighbourhoods Living Communities Association, Chris Dempsey who chairs the Eden Epsom Residents Association and Lindsey Rea who chairs the Kingsland Community Association. "Auckland deserves better of its elected Councillors, and City Vision will work with Labour Councillors in other wards to bring Auckland together after three years of divisive rule. We will run a strong local campaign to put up alternatives for the residents of Mt Eden and Mt Albert."
