Own Goal Over Dining Curfew For Western Bays C&R Candidates

You would think that the C&R Council candidates for the Western Bays Ward would be better informed if they are serious about asking people to vote for them. Their advertising keeps repeating that there is a proposed 11pm curfew for streetside dining on Ponsonby Rd. Opposing this curfew was given as a reason to vote for C&R.

Unfortunately for the C&R candidates, the proposal was actually the product of their own Councillors. It came from a review of the liquor policy conducted by the John Banks/C&R council. They wanted a 1am closure on street dining and drinking in the CBD and 11pm in other areas.

City Vision and Labour Councillors opposed this proposal. We said that this should be the choice of individual areas and that an 11pm curfew was ridiculous for an entertainment precinct such as Ponsonby Rd.

If the C&R candidates can't get simple facts about liquor laws right, could you trust them to deal with the really big issues? We don't think so.
