Rosey future for business precinct

Rosey future for business precinct

Auckland City Council's Economic Development and Sustainable Business Committee has approved for consultation a draft plan aimed at promoting growth in the Rosebank business precinct and helping provide an extra 10,000 jobs in the area by 2030.

The draft plan - called Rosebank 2030 - provides the framework to support the renewal and ongoing development of the precinct. The Rosebank peninsula is one of Auckland's most important dedicated business areas and its 780 businesses currently provide around 8500 jobs.

Committee chairperson Councillor Richard Northey says that the Rosebank business precinct makes a significant contribution to the city's economy and that the time is right to support the area's development.

"The council has been working closely with the Rosebank business community to develop the draft plan. It represents a mix of the feedback we have received from local businesses and the council's aspirations for the area," he says.

"Rosebank businesses provide around three per cent of the city's jobs, but the area has yet to reach its full potential. Rosebank 2030 will promote the right conditions to make the best use of the industrial and commercial land available and enhance the prosperity of the area."

Rosebank 2030 aims to:

o retain and grow existing businesses
o attract new high value adding companies
o protect the land for industrial and commercial use
o encourage green and energy efficient production technologies and business practices
o cement Rosebank's position as a key manufacturing and exporting hub.

Rosebank 2030 looks at the additional infrastructure needed by the business area as it grows - such as roads, stormwater, communications and power. The plan also seeks to recommend appropriate zoning and other controls to guide future growth and maximise Rosebank's attractiveness as a business location.

The draft plan is being printed and the document will be launched for consultation with Rosebank businesses and key stakeholders at the end of August.
