Regional People policy points are:

Public Ownership and Control of Auckland's Assets

• Retain and promote public ownership and control of regional assets and services.
• Retain full public ownership of Ports of Auckland.
• Work with Auckland City to open the tank farm Wynyard Park, the waterfront and Queen's wharf to the people of Auckland at the earliest opportunity.
• No Lord Mayor - ensure a strong and democratic Regional Council.

Planning for a Great and Sustainable Auckland

• Oppose urban sprawl - support the sustainable development of Auckland.
• Protect and enhance our environment.
• Call on government for national policies on population growth and development for whole of NZ.
• Cut air pollution - bring back 0800 Smokey.
• Step up purchase of parkland especially coastal land.
• Breathe life into the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park and support DoC proposed wildlife open sanctuary on Rangitoto Motutapu islands.

Transport Solutions for Auckland

• Ensure the availability of reliable, fast buses, trains and ferries.
• Integrate public transport services into a 21st century network.
• Accelerate the electrification of rail.
• Expand rail services to Onehunga and Helensville.
• Support extension of rail line to the airport.
• Introduce a single transferable ticket for buses trains and ferries within next 3 years.
• Support expansion of cycleways, including the harbour bridge.

Fair Rates and Ratepayer Value for Auckland

• Keep ARC rates increases below 5% pa.
• No Uniform Annual General Charge - which impact unfairly on medium to lower value properties.
• Retain business rates differential.
• Work with the other Auckland councils to share databases and achieve a single rates bill.
• Refocus ARC activities and reprioritize objectives to achieve better value for ratepayers.
• Concerted drive to cut out bureaucratic waste and duplication of roles with other councils to reduce costs.
